About Screen Actors

The Screen Actors Studio began in 1992 with a handful of students, one teacher and a small church hall . We set out to develop a way of training actors for the screen that was simple and effective. Over ten years of workshopping we developed a sytem that combines the best of Australian multicam TV Drama techniques and the highly successful US emotional realism style of acting.

Today, the Screen Actors Studio operates as Screen Actors Australia and trains actors in four studios in the Victorian metro and regional areas in the popular American-style known as 'Method Acting'. From the actors in our intial group depicted in our original "Stars Of Tomorrow" poster six are now national TV stars and two are working internationally.

Since starting in 1992 Screen Actors has successfully trained more than eight thousand actors.

The buisness is now divided into two stages of operation:

  1. A network of acting studios to train actors;
  2. A Production Company that will produce high quality family film and television productions for the international marketplace and employ those actors trained by the studios

The Screen Actors Australia has had great success training national television stars such as Jonathan Dutton ('Tad' from Channel 10's Neighbours), Jordy Lucas and Marisa Siketa (Both played Summer Hoyland In Neighbours) Charlene Tjoe (Scooter Secret Agent) Emma Leonard (Wicked Science) Craig Stott (East Of Everthing) Nicole Gulasakharem & Rohan Hills  (Hayely and Marcus As The Bell Rings) and Marisa Sikita (ABC's Saddle Club and Channel 10's Neighbours).

Every Childrens TV drama series filmed in Victoria in the last five years has had a Screen Actors Student in a major role. The 2006 AFI Young Actor OF The Year award went to a student from Screen Actors.

Actors from tots, kids, teens to adults and seniors training at the studio are now seen every day in television commercials, Australian drama series and feature films. Actors generally begin working as extras, then progress through bit parts, guest roles and finally become principal cast members.

They are seen in Films like "Macbeth" and Lake Mungo" anda large number of short films. Our actors are seen in"Neighbours" "Blue Heelers" "City Homicide" "All Saints" "East Of Everything" "Macleods Daughters", "Scooter Secret Agent", "Wicked Science" and and enromous number of music videos ,TV commercials and educational programs.

All our actors are referrred to great agents and other support systems to help them to develop their careers. Currently several different agents in Melbourne represent the bulk of our actors with great success.

Agents representing people from Screen Actors have the advantage of being able to monitor their actors development by logging into our website and checking on students class scores. All students are assessed on the criteria of Improvisation, Homework and Scene Work in every class. Scores are totalled at the end f term and awards given for top scorers.

Casting Directors both independent and from all major programs constantly visit our studios to do general auditions both with our actors and actors who are not our members.

The studios all run a variety of one day and holiday programs both in acting and in production techniques. These "Bootcamps" are enormous fun and very effective. All holiday acting programs are audited by a casting director on the final day.

But the training at Screen Actors is not just about getting ahead in the business of film and TV. Its also about having fun and building confidence as well as meeting like minded people who just love acting and making films!

One of the things we are very proud of is that we have built a system that has created thousands of lasting friendships and given people skills and confidence they never thought they would have.
